A straightforward bill format for shops, services and contractors. Fill it in, download the PDF, done.
Bill or invoice — is there a difference?
In everyday Indian usage they mean the same thing: a document asking for payment for goods or services. Under GST the formal terms are tax invoice, where tax is charged and shown separately, and bill of supply, where no tax is charged, for example by a composition dealer or on exempt goods.
What to put on a bill
- Your shop or business name and address
- Bill number and date
- Customer name, if you record it
- Item, quantity, rate and amount for each line
- Total, and the amount in words
- Tax lines, if you are registered under GST
Printing on smaller paper
The builder produces A4 by default, which suits most businesses and files neatly. If you need a thermal or half-page receipt, your browser print dialog can scale the sheet down at print time.
Common mistakes
- No bill number, which makes the year impossible to reconcile
- Charging tax without being registered
- Writing only a total with no line detail
- No date on the bill
